I just received word that Bob Felton passed early yesterday morning. Our thoughts go out to the David Whitlock family during this time. Especially to the girls who will miss their cantankerous but always faithful father and grandfather. Bob was a good friend and I was fortunate to spend time with him when he visited us for a couple months in 2002. I had just purchased a lathe and mill but knew nothing about operating either of them. I invited Bob to come-on-down from Canada to teach me the basics. He agreed to come, after some persuasion, and we had a great time working in the shop together.
I gave Bob a tooling catalogue and told him to order the items we needed for the two pieces of equipment. I had to keep an eye on him because his initial instinct was to choose the cheapest item instead of the one that would be the most appropriate in-spite of a few dollars difference in cost. Once we had the tooling we needed Bob made the machines sing a pleasant tune as he created several parts for the Hum-Bee and other bits and pieces for the shop.
In the attached photo Bob is working on what I consider to be my first project involving metal shaping done before I became involved with MetalMeet.com.
We'll all miss Bob but are grateful to have the memories of him to visit during his absence.
I'm sorry to hear of Bob's death. Just the other night/early morning I went out to warm up car before departing. In doing so, I recalled Bob doing the same, but the police being mighty curious of a VW? with Canadian tags running unattended that cold night.
